Now that recreational marijuana has become legal in certain states with more that are certain to follow, the number of marijuana events has grown significantly. It should be noted, however, that these events are more than simply gatherings where participants partake of marijuana and do little else. The best events are centered around activities other than simply recreational use of weed. For instance, the Colorado Symphony has been sponsoring outdoor musical performances on summer nights geared toward those who like their classical music with a side of marijuana.
Other types of marijuana-friendly events include campouts, dinners, art shows, and cruises. These events are far from being free-for-alls, however. Participants must be over 21 years of age, and overindulgence is not encouraged, and alcohol is usually not on the menu. It can be difficult for those who want to host a marijuana event because there are substantial restrictions on where the substance can be used. For instance, it cannot be used in public spaces such as parks, and if it is consumed outdoors in private residences, participants must be out of sight of anyone driving or walking by. One of the many misunderstandings concerning legalizition of recreational marijuana has centered around where it can and cannot be consumed. Many people thought that it would be able to be smoked anywhere that tobacco use was legally sanctioned, but that is not the case at all. And, just like tobacco use, hotels, motels, and other lodging establishments often forbid it’s use on the premises.
Marijuana events are frequently held in privately owned inns and bed-and-breakfast establishments where participants can indulge in privacy and peace. Ambitious entrepreneurs have opened lodging establishments specifically for the purpose of catering to the fledgling marijuana tourism industry, and many of them plan events such as dinners and concerts on their premises for the enjoyment of their guests. These establishments provide excellent opportunities for marijuana users to socialize among themselves in a positive environment.
As legalization of recreational use of marijuana continues to occur throughout the country, the marijuana event industry will continue to grow and evolve. If current trends are any indication, it is likely that these types of events will be commonplace in most parts of the country within several decades or perhaps even sooner if federal decriminalization takes place as expected.
